HEARINGS IMPORTANT FOR REINFORCEMENT OF ARMY-SOCIETY TIES BUT ARE NOT ENOUGH - ARTHUR SAKUNTS
15:05 ~U 28.06.13
Head of Helsinki Civil Assembly Vanadzor Office Arthur Sakunts is
for conduction of frequent discussions for the reinforcement of
army-society ties but thinks it is not enough.
Speaking to Tert.am, Sakunts said the regular hearing of the National
Assembly's Defense, National Security and Home Affairs Standing
Committee on "Transparency in Armed Forces" conducted today is
unprecedented in Armenia's history regarding the opportunity it affords
to the civil society representatives to express their viewpoints
directly which helps to establish a dialogue and reinforce the trust.
"For us such index is the statistics about human rights. Besides
mortality cases, issues are being raised by officers as well, it
means an oversight system is being formed," he said.
The human rights advocate though stressed that of course they are
not satisfied with it. He said it is necessary not only to inform
the public about the undertaken steps but explain their purpose.
