GALUST SAHAKIAN: WE HAVE NOTHING TO CONCEDE TO OPPOSITION
Thursday,
February 28
There has been an agreement as a result of the current consultations
between three factions of the National Assembly, the head of ARFD
faction Armen Rustamian told reporters following the meeting held in
the office of parliament speaker.
"The talks have not been completed, and taking into account their
effectiveness, I would not like to make any comments," he noted.
The head of Heritage faction Ruben Hakobian told reporters there are
some controversial issues currently being discussed and an agreement
has not yet been reached.
When asked whether he considers it possible that a special session
will not be held if some proposals of the package are not accepted, R.
Hakobian expressed hope that a special session will be held.
"At the moment the authorities is discussing the issue of holding
early parliamentary elections," he remarked.
The head of Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) faction Galust Sahakian
declined to give details following the meeting.
"Naturally, the proposals are tough, but some details, rather than
the texts of those proposals, have been published," G. Sahakian noted.
In his words, the authorities and opposition should reach an agreement
not on distribution of positions, but on joint solutions to some
problems.
As regards early parliamentary elections, G. Sahakian called this
idea an absurdity, explaining that it is incorrect to make a proposal
about the parliament's dissolution during a discussion concerning
the presidential election.
"In the last parliamentary election Heritage Party managed to
overcome 5% threshold. What will happen after the dissolution of the
parliament? Are they their own enemies?" the HHK faction head said.
When asked if the authorities will make any concessions to the
opposition, G. Sahakian replied that they have nothing to concede. "We
just want to stabilize the situation in the country in order to
implement reforms".
