There are scores of families left homeless by the 1988 earthquake in
Armenia who have been living in makeshift housing for the past 25
years.
These are people who, for a number of reasons, never got their names
registered on the official waiting list for replacement housing.
Many are senior citizens, never filed the proper paperwork by the
November 1, 2008 deadline.
Today, Shirak Center staff members finally located one such elderly
woman living by herself in a small hut amidst the ruins of the former
Electrotechnic Factory.
The hut has no utilities whatsoever.
We had heard about her plight in early February and had been tracking
her down ever since.
