The editor-in-chief of Russia Today, ethnic Armenian Margarita
Simonyan, ranks the fifth on a recently unveiled list featuring
Russia's top-100 most powerful women.
The ranking, prepared by the Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow ) radio, RIA
Novosti and Interfax news agencies and the Ogonyok (Little Flame)
magazine, is topped by Svetlana Mironyuk, the RIA Novosti
editor-in-chief. An anchor for the REN TV channel, Marianna
Maksimovskaya, is the second on the list. Journalist and TV presenter
Kseniya Sobchak and CEO of the TV channel Dozhd (Rain) Natalya
Sindeeva come next.
The Russian-Armenian editor's name was mentioned 803 times last year.
She has considerably improved her ranking, raising from the 33rd
position in 2011 to the 18th position in 2012.
The Russian pop singer, Alla Pugacheva, and President Dmitry
Medvedev's wife, Svetlana Medvedeva, are also on the top 10 list.
