On the heels of a Hetq report revealing widespread food safety
violations at the Getamej chicken processing plant, the Food Safety
Service of the RA Ministry of Health has circulated its own scathing
summary of the plant~Rs entire operation.
In particular, the summary points out that none of the workers at
the plant owned by Grig El Met were wearing the gear required of food
handlers, that the transfer facilities for the product were filthy,
that the plant lacked an adequate ventilation system, and that the
refrigeration units lacked a climate control monitoring system.
The summary states that 47 of the plant workers hadn~Rt undergone
periodic medical testing.
A sampling of the processed chickens also revealed salmonella bacteria.
The Food Safety Service has thus ordered that the plant be shut down
and that all Getamej chickens be pulled from store shelves.
The FSS urges consumers to return any Getamej chickens to the point
of purchase.
