Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas, a local nonprofit agency that
matches at-risk children with grown-up mentors, is taking part in a
national campaign to locate and reunite former clients with those who
helped them during childhood.
`Our agency has been serving kids in this community for 35 years,'
BBBS president and CEO Denise Barkhurst said. `Our hope is that by
bringing our alumni together and showing them how much we appreciate
them, we will open avenues for people who are already invested in our
work to help kids succeed in school and life.'
Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas is competing with 350 other
BBBS agencies across the nation in the contest, which consists of
several social media strategies and events.
To participate in the local Think Little Campaign, visit Big Brothers
Big Sisters on Facebook and like the ThinkLittle page.
The winning agency will receive $30,000 by accumulating the most
number of `likes' and new Facebook friends and by reconnecting with
the most alumni. The campaign runs through March 31.
The campaign also is on Twitter at ThinkLittleBBBS.
`The contest will reward the agency that reaches out in the most
effective and creative way,' said Armen Babajanian, vice president of
external communications for the agency. `We want San Antonio to win
and show our nationwide offices we have a strong commitment to reach
out to our former Littles in the community.'
Former clients can join the national alumni network at reunitenow.org.
