Though Armenia has good and deep relations with Russia, it seeks
to develop relations with the European Union, Under Secretary of
the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Simon Fraser said at a
briefing in Yerevan.
Fraser thinks that the relations with Russia do not run counter to
Armenia's European integration processes. He thinks that one should
encourage the development of Armenia's relations with the EU. He
expressed hope that the cooperation within the frames of the talks on
Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement and Association Agreement
will be continued. Fraser pointed out that these agreements will help
Armenia to avoid many obstacles, particularly, customs barriers.
Simon Fraser said that he has come to Armenia to discuss three topics:
prospects for development of the Armenian-British bilateral relations;
Armenia's talks on European integration; and regional issues, including
the Karabakh peace process.
He added that the United Kingdom admits the legitimacy of the
presidential election results in Armenia despite some problems during
the election, and is also going to support the reforms in Armenia in
the future.
