Yura Movsisyan, the forward of the Armenian national football team,
played a great first match in Spartak Moscow, scoring three goals.
Thanks to Movsisyan's three goals, Spartak defeated Grozni's Terel
by 3:1.
Before moving to Spartak, Movsisyan played for Krasnodar Club. He
was one of the best players in the national cup, not only in the club.
Krasnodar is one of the most nationalistic regions of Russia and its
governor Tkachkov is famous for his nationalistic statements. Moscow
is no better. There, battles between skinheads and Caucasian people
are something usual. A lot of Armenians were killed over the past
few years in Krasnodar. Many of the killers are also football fans,
including fans of Spartak Moscow.
>>From this point of view, Yura Movsisyan acquires big trans-football
significance. With his successful matches Yura Movsisyan forms a
positive attitude towards Armenians in Russia. Of course, it is
difficult to score three goals in a match but fans understand it too.
And the match is not defined as good or bad but by the score.
Yura's brilliant play may do a lot more than the Armenian embassy in
Russia. Moreover, what the embassy is doing in Russia is really an
urgent issue.
Can anyone recall any significant political statements by the Armenian
ambassador to Russia? Before Oleg Yesayan, the ambassador of Armenia
to Russia was someone who at best could be the representative of
Armenia to the Conservatorium of Moscow.
Armenians are killed in Moscow, the embassy gives no reaction,
Russia builds up friendship with the enemies of Armenia, supplies
weapon to Azerbaijan, the embassy is silent, Safarov is extradited,
Putin's friend's name figures in this matter, Russia is silent, so
is the Armenian ambassador who excuses himself by being busy with
the 200th anniversary of Borodino battle.
So, there is no doubt that Yura Movsisyan's successful matches may
substitute the Armenian embassy in Russia, while the funds that will
be saved as a result could be spent on charity.
It's a pity there is no football player to substitute the Armenian
foreign ministry.
