ARMENIAN CLERGYMAN READY TO VISIT EX-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE 'IF NECESSARY'

Priest Shmavon Ghevondyan is ready, if necessary, to visit
ex-presidential candidate Raffi Hovannisian, who is staging a hunger
strike in Freedom Square.
As regards the Armenian Church's response to Mr Hovannisian's
"messages," he told Tert.am that priests' business is preaching and
religious services.
"As a priest I visited Andrias Ghukasyan and talked to him, without any
implications. If necessary, I will visit Raffi Hovannisian even if I
do not personally know him," Ghevondyan told Tert.am as he actually
answered a question as to whether Catholicos Garegin II may visit
Mr Hovannisian.
Mr Hovannisian recently made political statements addressed to the
Armenian Church. He said in particularly that he will not allow
"the Holy Scripture to be desecrated in the Catholicos' presence,
during Serzh Sargsyan's inauguration."
