The upcoming elections of Yerevan Council of Elders are one link in the
chain of struggle, Heritage party's vice chairman Armen Martirosyan
told reporters in Liberty Square, adding that their struggle has a
state goal.
Commenting on the proposal of Republic party leader Aram Sargsyan to
give up mandates, Martirosyan said that this opinion has the right
to exist, adding that he doubts that all opposition forces are ready
to do it.
On March 11, Republic party leader Aram Sargsyan visited Raffi
Hovannisian, who is on hunger strike in Liberty Square. He said that
those parliamentary factions which think that Raffi Hovannisian won
the presidential elections should give up their mandates.
The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia on February 25 announced
the final results of the presidential elections in Armenia. According
to them, Serzh Sargsyan won the elections with 58.64% of the votes,
while his closest rival, Raffi Hovannisian, received 36.75% of
the votes. Hovannisian disagrees with the election results and is
holding mass protest actions. On March 4, representatives of Raffi
Hovannisian and former candidate Andrias Ghukasyan handed an appeal
to the Constitutional Court disputing the results of the February 18
presidential elections in Armenia.
Raffi Hovannisian began hunger strike in Liberty Square on March 10
evening, which he says will end on March 31.
