YEREVAN MUST TURN INTO ARMENIA'S CIVILIZED CAPITAL - MP

Yerevan must turn into a capital with its peculiar role, culture
and ethics, Zoya Tadevosyan, an MP from the opposition bloc Armenian
National Congress (ANC), told Tert.am as she spoke of municipal and
mayoral elections in Yerevan.
She confirmed that the ANC member Vahagn Khachatryan will top the
ANC list. Ms Tadevosyan will rank second, and ANC Chairman Levon
Ter-Petrosyan's spokesman Arman Musinyan will rank third.
Asked about the ANC's advantages over Armenia's authorities,
Ms Tadevosyan said that "there is no sense in comparing with the
authorities because Armenia has never seen such corrupt authorities
before."
The opposition's advantage is that it is not responsible for any
failures in the country. The opposition has remained committed to
its principles irrespective of how successful ANC list is.
As regards the Heritage party, which seems to be in better starting
conditions, with Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian in Freedom
Square and the population's uniting round him, Ms Tadevosyan does
not think so.
"I have my own opinion sharply different from others. I know facts
the country's population is unaware of. I am sure that the Heritage
party list does not contain the names that enjoy public confidence,"
she said.
