DO NOT BELIEVE PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT RUSSIANS MAKE ARMENIA JOIN CUSTOMS UNION: PRESIDENT SAYS
YEREVAN, March 19. / ARKA /. Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan
brushed aside allegations that Moscow is making Armenia join the
Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
"Do not believe all those people claiming in media or at rallies,
in the kitchens or in theaters, no matter where, that Russians force
us to join the Customs Union" Sargsyan said yesterday at a meeting
with Armenian journalists.
"There is no pressure on us. How much can we repeat it? We can say
the opposite: the members of the Customs Union have no desire to
engage other members. At any rate, I have not seen such a desire
regarding Armenia's possible membership in it. Another question is
integration. How can we not continue integration process? How can
we link our military security issues with the CSTO and the Russian
Federation, while linking our future economic or political destiny
with any other country or alliance at the expense of others? ",
Sargsyan said.
At that Armenia's president said that Armenia will continue its
integration process with the European institutions.
"We are honest in our aspirations, which stem from the interests of
our people. We want our country to develop and use in that process
the assistance of the Customs Union and the European Union ", he added.
