KUWAIT TO BUILD WATER RESERVOIR IN ARMENIA

Armenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Territorial
Administration Armen Gevorgyan met in Kuwait City with the Kuwait
investment fund Deputy Director Hamad Al-Omar.
The meeting was held in the framework of Gevorgyan's visit. The Kuwait
investment fund has been active in the Middle East, supporting the
development program. The activities of the fund are in particular
focused on the infrastructure of agriculture, irrigation and drinking
water, transportation and energy infrastructure. The parties discussed
the possibility of cooperation in these sectors.
Armenian Deputy Prime Minister said that the government pays great
attention to the improvement of infrastructure in the country, as it
is essential to the development of the regions. In the coming years, he
added, the government is preparing a major program for the construction
of reservoirs. Gevorgyan proposed certain programs and discussed the
principles of cooperation with international donor organizations.
Management of the investment fund was offered the project of
construction of the water reservoir near the village Mastara in
Armenian Aragatsotn region. With the capacity of 10.2 million cubic
meters, the reservoir will collect Mastara river water. Reservoir
will provide irrigation for 4,384 hectares, or six communities in
the region.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the Kuwaiti side will be
presented with specific offers on the construction of water reservoir
during next few months, after which the foundation officials will
visit Armenia to make a final decision on the possibilities of the
project. It is expected that in May 2013 the construction project of
the reservoir would be submitted to the foundation for final decision.
Kuwait foundation representatives expressed interest in cooperation,
and expressed willingness to discuss other specific projects as well.
