ARMENIAN PREMIER: FREQUENT CHANGES IN TAX LAWS UNWELCOME, BUT NECESSARY FOR COUNTRIES IN TRANSITION
YEREVAN, March 20. /ARKA/. Frequent changes in tax laws are unwelcome,
but inevitable and necessary for a country in transition, Armenian
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said Wednesday in the National Assembly
answering the question of an opposition MP, Aram Manukyan, who said
that the property tax law has been amended 12 times in the last five
years, the profit tax law 25 times, the law on inspections 40 times,
the law on licensing 70 times and the law on state duties 55 times.
The lawmaker said that frequent amendments hamper businesses.
"Your criticism is apt, and I agree that frequent amendments cramp
businessmen's style," the premier answered. "We are trying to limit
legislative changes to minimum and we will try to discuss them with
business sector's representatives. It is also necessary to take into
account that emerging countries need legislative changes."
Sargsyan stressed that the number of normative acts in Armenia is
not larger than in other countries.
"There are countries with 25,000 normative acts, and there are
countries where their number is three times greater," he said.---0---
