Armenian parliament security service shoots at trespasser
YEREVAN. March 22
A man armed with a cold weapon attempted to unlawfully enter the
Armenian parliament territory on Friday, and security had to fire to
stop him, local media have reported.
The man was injured and hospitalized.
Armenian National Security Service and police officers are conducting
investigative procedures at the scene now, an Interfax correspondent
reported. All entrances to the building have been blocked.
The middle-aged man armed with a knife attempted to enter the
parliament building apparently passing through a checkpoint. The
building and a park adjacent to it are surrounded by a high metal
fence. Parliament security officers tried to stop the man by shooting
in the air while he was walking from the checkpoint toward the
building. As the man did not obey, security officers had to shoot the
man in the leg.
Local media said that, when asked by security who he was, the man
replied, "Jesus Christ."
The Armenian police and National Security Service confirmed the fact
of the incident to Interfax.
