YEREVAN, MARCH 27, ARMENPRESS: Declaring its independence people
of Nagorno-Karabakh used one of the basic rights of the societies,
rights of nation's self-determination. As reports Armenpress, this was
stated by Turkish human rights activist and publisher Ragıp Zarakolu
at the meeting with journalists. "It has been about 40 years that
I am working in human rights sphere, and my position in this issue
is obvious. During the collapse of the USSR, on the provocation of
Turkey, Azerbaijani authorities started to commit fascist agitation
and slaughter of Armenians. Karabakh people expressed their will,
self-determined, resisted and succeeded. I am glad for their victory,"
Turkish activist noted. He likened Karabakh issue with the Kurdish one
in Turkey. "Even if there are some issues in the family, spouses have
the right to divorce. I believe that nations have that right as well,"
underlined Ragıp Zarakolu. Outstanding Turkish activist, writer and
publisher Ragıp Zarakolu arrived in Armenia in order to participate
in "Armenian Genocide. Challenges ahead of the century" international
scientific conference. He is among those rare Turkish intellectuals
who raised issues and wrote books about Armenian genocide, which
caused numerous harassments and arrest. For the same struggle his
son is now in prison.
