Member of Free Democrats party Alexander Arzumanyan told a news
conference today that the only way to fight against the authorities
was participation in the presidential elections with united candidate
which though did not happen.
He said the experience shows that the authorities are being reproduced
and it happened on February 18. "Only united candidate may influence
the ruling regime. These elections were a good opportunity for
consolidation and I regret that this consolidation has failed,"
he said.
Referring to the decision of the party not to participate in City
Council elections, Arzumanyan said hardly finishing one process,
the political field enters another one, which as of the moment is a
political crisis. He said if there was a time between these processes
our participation could have been logical.
He said today Armenia must make many radical changes and the
authorities should realize that they cannot move forward with
imitations.
Speaking about the appointment of new PM, Arzumanyan said if Prime
Minister Tigran Sargsyan had freedom to act independently from the
created oligarchic system he may continue working.
"For us it is not the issue of personality, it is the issue of the
system, the mechanism works wrong," he said, convincing that cosmetic
changes will not do anything.
Arzumanyan abstained from giving assessments to the opposition parties
participating in City Council elections and wished success to everyone.
