Former chairman of Armenia's Central Bank Bagrat Asatryan believes that
the 1 million euros provided by the EU for prevention of emigration
from Armenia cannot ensure qualitative solution.
"It is clear that 1 million euros will not solve any essential issue
and we should stop it on our own. It is not emigration, it may be
compared with the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt," Asatryan told
the reporters on Thursday.
He presented the graphics of migration flows, the tendencies of
reduction of the population and unprecedented high voter turnout.
"We are facing ethnographic crisis and there is an essential diversion
in the population's structure. Today each fifth girl is deprived of
the opportunity to have a child," he said, adding that there is no
need to rely on grants no matter how legally they are being used.
He stressed that no matter how legally and targeted the provided
money be spent nothing will be changed. "What can be done if 1 million
people want to go to Europe?" he said.
Referring to Russia's policy, Asatryan said it continues encouraging
emigration. People are being gathered and sent to Russia. "If it
continues so, Armenia will be classified among the countries with no
future," he said.
Asatryan said no matter how the officials claim that there is no
such issue of either Europe or Russia, the issue does exist. "It is
pleasant when people understand which their future is. The people
are already tired and demand stopping the coming corruption system
from Russia as Armenia is Europe with its essence," he concluded.
