YEREVAN. - Armenia's Human Rights Defender, Karen Andreasyan, will
keep the activities of the country's Cassation Court "under a
microscope," Andreasyan himself pledged this during a press conference
on Friday.
The cause for such watchful attitude was the judiciary's stormy
reaction to the ombudsman's respective criticisms. As per the human
rights defender, Armenia's judicatures are the "leaders" when it
comes to distrust by the country's citizenry.
Karen Andreasyan recalled that the Office of the Human Rights Defender
has no right to intervene in the ongoing court cases. In his words,
however, two Office associates will follow all finished cases,
before they are submitted to the European Court, and one associate
will follow the activities of the State Commission for the Protection
of Economic Competition and the State Revenue Committee.
