Armenian parliament is discussing the issue concerning the ratification
of the protocols on regulation of Turkish-Armenian relations. According
to the Armenian side, the opening of the borders between the two
countries will be a serious support to the Armenian economy. Chairman
of the Armenian parliament, Hovik Abrahamyan, made a statement about
this issue on April 29. Representative of the opposition party, Artsvik
Minasyan, demanded explanations of what Armenia's economic gains
would be after the ratification of the protocols. However, he did not
receive answers. In 2009, Armenia and Turkey signed the protocols for
restoring diplomatic relations and opening the border. However, neither
of the sides later ratified these protocols. It is known that Turkey
demands from Armenia to withdraw its forces from Karabakh and free
illegally occupied Azeri territories. Of course, Armenia has rejected
this proposal and the relations between the two states remain frozen.
