AZERBAIJANI POLICE BROKE UP RALLY OF YOUTH IN MEMORY OF VICTIMS OF MASSACRE THAT HAPPENED IN OIL ACADEMY

    18:59 30/04/2013 " SOCIETY

Today, the reinforced police prevented the youth activists to
commemorate the victims of the massacre in the Oil Academy on the
occasion of the 4th anniversary of the tragedy, which occurred on
April 30, in 2009. Youth action was not authorized by the authorities,
which allowed the law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan to disperse
the rally. Several youth activists are detained, the Azerbaijani portal
    "Haqqin.az" reports.

A member of the NIDA Movement, Turgut Gambar, who is the son of the
"Musavat" party chairman Isi Hambar, as well as Abulfaz Gurbanly,
the head of the Youth Committee of Popular Front, were detained.

As the news agency reports, a group of young people in Azerbaijan
called on peers through social networks to come to Baku on April 30
to commemorate the victims of the massacre that took place in the
    Oil Academy (AGNA).

As the news agency Turan reports, the police cordoned off the building
of the Oil Academy, where the bloody drama was played out four years
ago, and no one was allowed there.

The police forced out young people with flowers in their hands,
and detained Abulfaz Gurbanly, the head of the Youth Committee of
    Popular Front.

Later, a member of the NIDA Movement, Turgut Gambar, was detained near
the Library named after Akhundov. It happened when the police began
to disperse approximately 50 young people who gathered to make a rally.

Another group of young people managed to lay flowers on the boulevard,
where the concert will take place today. In this way, young people
protested against the concert on the day of the victims of terror.

As Turan notes, neither the government nor the leadership of the Oil
Academy conduct activities commemorating the victims of the tragedy.

On April 30, in 2009 inhabitant of Georgia Farda Gadirov organized a
massacre in the building of the Oil Academy shooting dead 12 people
and wounding 13. Gadirov shot himself. Those accused of complicity
in the crime, countrymen F. Gadirova, Javidan Amirov, Nadir Aliyev,
Najaf Suleymanov were sentenced to life imprisonment. Arif Gabulov
was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Except for Suleimanov all the
defendants stated that they had given their testimony under pressure.

The Azerbaijani authorities do not allow the youth to hold rallies
in memory of the victims of the tragedy and disperse them every year.
