The old Fire Station number 83

Old fire station to serve as community center

LOS ANGELES-The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday voted 10 to 0
approving the transfer of surplus city property, formerly know as
Fire Station Number 83, to serve as the new community center for the
    Armenian Cultural Foundation in Encino.

The motion was co-introduced by City Councilmembers Paul Koretz and
Eric Garcetti and seconded by Paul Krekorian.

"We thank the Los Angeles City Council, especially councilmember
Paul Koretz in whose district Fire Station 83 is situated," said a
representative of the Encino Armenian community.

"This is a monumental achievement for the San Fernando Valley Armenian
American community. This would not have been possible had it not been
for the efforts of everyone in our community," added the rep.

"We look forward to bringing this building back to life to service
the needs of the entire community with social, educational, youth
and senior programs," said the community member.

Another vote on the matter is expected in the future.

Asbarez will provide extensive coverage of this developing story.
