Monday,
May 13
About 70 azatamartiks (freedom fighters), led by retired Colonel
Volodya Avetisian, gathered outside the Armenian government today. V.
Avetisian has conducted a sit-down in Liberty Square of Yerevan since
May 11.
`We demand only one thing - dignity. We want to receive worthy
pensions. In our letter to the government, we demand that the system
of officers' pensions should be reviewed, with special attention to be
given to the families of killed freedom fighters and those families
whose sons died in the army,' Volodya Avetisian told Aysor.am, adding
that many other freedom fighters wanted to join their action, but
could not afford to pay for transport.
`Killed freedom fighters' families living in extremely poor conditions
have also joined us. Let's hope the government will at least respond,'
V. Avetisian said, noting he will continue his sit-down in Liberty
Square until tomorrow.
