NKR official: 1994 ceasefire agreement important for region
May 13, 2013 - 13:01 AMT
PanARMENIAN.Net - What happened on May 12, 1994 was a significant
event for the South Caucasus region, head of the Central Information
Department of the Artsakh Republic President's Office said.
`It was a significant event for Azerbaijan too, as it would simply
cease to exist if not the good will of Artsakh and Armenian people's
non-aggressive worldview,' David Babayan told PanARMENIAN.Net
commenting on the anniversary of the ceasefire, signed in 1994.
`Thus, the policy the Armenian states pursued must be valued by the
international community. Azerbaijan is the only country that shows
disregard for the mediator countries' efforts aimed at the peaceful
settlement of conflict. However, this in no way affects our vision on
the inadmissibility of hostilities, regardless of the statements made
by some politicians. We, Armenians, are against the reoccurrence of
such a situation after going through war and hardships,' he said.
`However, this doesn't mean we are unable to defend our freedom and
independence in case of necessity. In the face of a new war, the
possibility of interim truce agreements will, unfortunately, be ruled
out. Baku must understand this,' Mr. Babayan said.
