L. Zurabian: Why was information about gas price increase withheld?
Thursday,
May 23
During the `question & answer hour' in the parliament today, deputy of
Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction Levon Zurabian asked Minister
of Economy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisian why information about
the increase in gas tariff was withheld from the people and if it had
anything to do with the elections.
The minister replied that a higher price of gas would be set if the
issue were voiced. `We needed to gain time to achieve the best result
for Armenia,' Armen Movsisian said.
As regards a connection between the gas tariff and the elections, the
minister denied such a possibility, noting that it is an economic
deal.
Levon Zurabain said bad news is usually announced after an election.
`The impression is that a deal has been closed with the Russian side'.
Armen Movsisian replied that in reality there is no connection.
