YEREVAN. - Once the information about increasing the price of natural
gas was disseminated, the residents of Armenia began to think more
about limiting their expenses, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.
`A drastic decrease in the volume of trade is recorded in [the
country's] non-food product markets and shopping centers. In addition,
employees of a variety of establishments require-ask [their] employers
to raise their salaries.
[But] some employers have found a convenient solution. They intimidate
their workers [by saying] that if they do not want to work with the
current salary, they may quit, and Syrian Armenians will come and work
in their stead, with the same salary,' Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
