Advocates Go On Strike
On May 6, 46 advocates announced that on June 10 and 11 they go on
strike and will not attend trials on those days. The purpose of the
strike is to draw the attention of the government and the civil
society to the unacceptable practices of the Court of Cassation.
Haik Alumyan, the president of the Chamber of Advocates, told Pastinfo
the activities of the Court of Cassation are unpredictable, its
decisions are not justified. Unpredictability is corruption risk.
Last year about 500 advocates joined the strike which was triggered by
illicit actions against the client of advocate Gevorg Gyozalyan. This
year 46 advocates have stated to join, other people also stated to
join, Haik Alumyan said.
