On October 30 President of the Armenian National Assembly Hovik
Abrahamyan received the Delegation led by the Co-Chair of the
European Union- Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (PCC)
Milan Cabrnoch. The Co-Chair of Armenia- European Union Parliamentary
Cooperation Committee Samvel Farmanyan was present at the meeting.
The press service of the Armenian National Assembly reports that
welcoming the guests the NA President highlighted the further
development of cooperation between the two parliaments and assured
that the Armenian side was ready to deepen its relations with the
European Union in all directions and possible formats. In his word,
the European Union is one of the important counterparts of Armenia,
and Armenia seeks to continue the comprehensive mutually beneficial
cooperation with the European Union. "We are ready to advance our
political agenda with our European counterparts," the NA President
said. Mr Abrahamyan also touched upon Armenia's decision to joining
the Customs Union. Touching upon the Resolution on Strengthening the
European Neighbourhood Policy adopted by the European Parliament
on October 23, the NA President expressed regret that one-sided
and dangerous provisions had been in the resolution on the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict. To his conviction, they do not only contradict
the logic of the peaceful settlement of the conflict, but they also
put under question the efforts made by the OSCE Minsk Group. "The
problem for all of us is to promote the activation of the contacts
between the societies, but not to sow hatred between the peoples of
the neighbouring countries," Hovik Abrahamyan noted.
Milan Cabrnoch highlighted Armenia-European Union cooperation, noting
that the European Union was concerned about deepening the political
and economic cooperation with Armenia. In his word, Armenia is one
of the most important counterparts, and they are ready to continue
developing the relations within the framework of the Euronest, which
is one of the most important instruments of the Eastern Partnership.
In the course of the meeting the sides discussed regional problems,
also touched upon other issues of bilateral interest.
On Sept 3 Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan announced Armenia's
decision to join the Customs Union.
