Outage Caused By Isolation From Iran's Power Grid
The Ministry of Energy explained the cause of today's power outage
throughout Armenia. At 10.24 the power grid got isolated from that of
Iran to which the Armenian network has been connected since September
22 for 54 days while the nuclear power plant is disconnected from the
electricity generation network for annual maintenance and security
arrangements. During maintenance 190 megawatt electricity is imported
to Armenia from Iran.
In the result of isolation of the electricity system frequency dropped
to 45 Hz resulting the outage.
At 10:26 parallel operation of electricity supply was restored, and by
11:30 supply of 70% of consumers were restored. Currently maintenance
works are underway to restore supply of the other 30%. Specialists are
finding out the cause of isolation to prevent recurrence in the
future.
