TURKISH PARTY LEADER ANSWERS TO QUESTION ABOUT ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

    November 04, 2013 | 17:01

Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman
Kemal Kilicdaroglu, whose mother is said to be Armenian, spoke to
Taraf daily of Turkey. Below is an excerpt from the interview.

"In 1915, there were Armenian people in these lands, but, now, there
are not. How would you describe what happened to the Armenian people?

"I consider what happened in 1915 as one of the most dramatic events
in Ottoman history; it is impossible not to see this. But we do not
believe that sufficient number of resources and archives are opened
on this matter. When you look at it, you understand that it is a
    dramatic situation.

"2015 [i.e., the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide] is
approaching. What do you plan to do as a political party?

"As a party, our view is that the historians should cover those events
in an objective way for the society. If [all] the archives are opened,
there will be an opportunity to learn all the details."
