    TWENTY PEOPLE DETAINED AFTER CLASHES WITH POLICE IN YEREVAN

    YEREVAN, November 5. / ARKA /. Twenty supporters of Shant Harutyunyan,
    the leader of Tseghakron small party, who tried to hold an unauthorized
    march on Mashtots Avenue in downtown Yerevan, were taken to the police
    station after clashes with law enforcement officers, the police said
    in a statement.

    The police said armed with batons Harutyunyan's supporters refused
    to obey their order not to disturb the public order. In response
    the demonstrators threw makeshift firecrackers on the ground. The
    clash involved several hundreds demonstrators and one hundred
    police officers. According to some reports, five police officers
    were hospitalized.

    "The police managed to restore order and clean the street,' the police
    said. The police reminded that for several days Shant Harutyunyan
    came out with statements in Liberty Square calling for violence.

    "Law enforcement officers repeatedly told him to stop thoughtless
    behavior and calls for unlawful action. Today, police called
    on Harutyunyan and his supporters to refrain from unlawful acts,
    however, they refused to obey the lawful demands of the police,
