By late 2013 Armenia is going to organize 2 Armenian wine and brandy
tasting events in Moscow and Shanghai, Robert Haroutyunyan, Head of
the Armenian Development Agency (ADA), said at today's press conference
in Yerevan.
He said that the first tasting will take place in Moscow within the
frames of Days of Yerevan, and the second one will take place within
the frames of Shanghai exhibition in China. A total of 9 Armenian
companies will take part in the exhibition. Haroutyunyan pointed out
that the goal of the Armenian wine and brandy tasting is to present
the specific flavor of Armenian wines and brandy to the international
market. He said that the Armenian Government is going to pay serious
attention to the recognition of Armenian wine and brandy under the
program for the support of exports. In this context, Haroutyunyan
stressed the importance of the October 30 Armenian wine and brandy
tasting event in Strasbourg. The event took place under Armenia's
Chairmanship of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.
The head of the ADA stressed the significance of the event in terms
of export diversification. In addition to the traditional markets
of CIS countries, Armenia is also interested in the markets of
China and Europe. The products of Armenian wine makers and brandy
makers were also presented at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of
Alsace province. The events caused a big interest among the experts
of well-known hotels and restaurants. As a result, an agreement was
reached with several restaurants on Armenian wine and brandy deliveries
on a pilot basis.
When asked by ArmInfo's correspondent under what brand the Armenian
brandy is presented in France, Haroutyunyan stressed that it will
be hard for Armenia to use the word "cognac", but French people
themselves say "Armenian cognac" in their public statements. "They
are quite ell aware of the Armenian brandy quality", he said.
He added that the Government of Armenia has adopted an industrial
development strategy aimed at supporting exports. The Armenian
Development Agency is one of the most important structures dealing
with this problem. In particular, it is envisaged to speed up efforts
to develop the pharmaceutical field, winemaking, and precision
engineering. In 2013 the Government also approved a strategy aimed at
developing light industry, production of watches and jewelry. These
fields fit into Armenia's mid-term development program. One more
important goal is to search for new sales markets.
