AZERBAIJANI DEFENSE MINISTER'S FATHER WAS A NATIVE OF ARMENIA

Azerbaijan's new defense minister Zakir Hasanov's father Asker Hasanov
was born in Etchmiadzin, Armenia. Afterwards their family moved to
Yerevan and lived there for many years, Yeni Musavat newspaper says.
The newspaper conducted its own investigation after the press had
published the information that the new defense minister comes from
Nakhijevan and is a native of Armenia. However, the official biography
mentions a different place of birth - Astara.
Yeni Musavat has found out that during the Soviet years Hasanov's
father served in the frontier troops. Zakir Hasanov was really born in
Astara region of Azerbaijan, where his father was sent on an official
trip from Yerevan.
To note, on 22 October 2013 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed
a decree on the new staff of the Azeri Government. Zakir Hasanov, who
was the commander of Internal Troops of the Azeri Interior Ministry,
has been appointed new defense minister of Azerbaijan.
