A shooting took place recently on Azerbaijan-Iran border, after which
Iran warned Azerbaijan that such actions will receive an adequate
response. Following the incident, Iran closed the Julfa checkpoint,
Iranian studies expert Rudik Yaralyan said at today's news conference.
`That incident was beneficial to Azerbaijan which wishes to cause
difficulties for contacts on Iran-Azerbaijan border, in particular for
contacts between Talyshes and Iranians,' Yaralyan said.
According to the expert, Azerbaijan shows that it remains an
anti-Iranian base in the South Caucasus and supports the anti-Iranian
forces.
The recent incident will increase the tensions in the relations
between Iran and Azerbaijan, the Iranian studies expert concluded.
