A group of civil society activists in Armenia are compiling a list
of corrupt officials with the aim of delivering it to Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) rapporteurs when they come
to Armenia.
In addition, the activists will demand sanctions be imposed on the
people on the list. One member of this initiative, Zara Hovhannisyan,
informed Epress.am that on the list are names of criminal oligarchs
and corrupt officials, as well as officials who have trampled on
human rights.
"We demand to ban entry into other countries the children and other
relatives of Armenian oligarch and officials who've violated human
rights in Armenia, and to freeze the personal [bank] accounts of
family members of those Armenian government officials who, for
security reasons, transfer money stolen from the Armenian people to
different banks in Europe and the United States or invest in real
estate acquired abroad. We will continue to work on this list and
the list of criminal oligarchs and corrupt officials will grow,
since this country's main task is to get rid of criminals," she said.
The list will be published when it is complete, she added.
