YEREVAN. Oct 2
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has called on the Council of Europe
to deal directly with the unrecognized republic of Karabakh.
"Karabakh had been and remained a part of Europe. Irrespective of
the political status of their country, Karabakh public is a member
of the European family," Sargsyan said at the Strasbourg session of
the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
"I think that the Council of Europe may initiate direct contacts with
Karabakh irrespective of the latter's status and within the limits
of its powers, especially as the Council of Europe has had similar
experience in other conflict zones," the Armenian president said.
Peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict under the aegis of the
OSCE Minsk Group will be Armenia's priority until a comprehensive
solution is found, he said.
