Shahan Gantaharyan: Armenians living in Aleppo are in hard condition
Friday, October 11, 20:36
The Armenians living in Aleppo are in a hard condition,
Editor-in-Chief of Azdag Daily (Lebanon) Shahan Gantaharyan told
journalists on Friday.
He said that Aleppo is in a blockade, with the local population
running short of food, fuel and medicines.
Gantaharyan said that in other parts of Syria, particularly, in the
littoral provinces, the situation is much calmer due to the presence
of a Russian navy. So, local Armenians have no problems.
As regards Damascus, there clashes happen sometimes, but the situation
is more or less controllable. Gantaharyan said that Armenia is doing
a lot to help Armenians from Syria. "But here we need complex measures
- for if a man has no job, his homeland becomes just a temporary
shelter for him," Gantaharyan said.
He said that almost 10,000 Armenians have moved to Armenia as a result
of the Syrian conflict. 7,000-8,000 Armenians have gone to Lebanon.
