ARCHAEOLOGISTS DISCOVER ANCIENT ARCHIVES IN THE CAPITAL CITY OF GREATER ARMENIA

Archaeologists have discovered ancient archives during the excavation
in Artashat, the capital city of Greater Armenia.
Pavel Avetisyan, Director of the Institute of Archeology and
Ethnography of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, has told
ArmInfo that during the previous excavations two archives dating back
to I and II centuries BC were found. The third archive has been found
this year near an ancient bathhouse of the Roman type.
The archive contains exclusive information about the late period of
the capital Artashat.
Artashat, the capital of Greater Armenia, was founded in Ararat Valley
by King Artashes. Historians mention various dates of its foundation.
Most of the experts say that Artashat was founded in 176 BC. Romans
called Artashat an Armenian Carthage and considered Hannibal to be
its founder.
