At today's session of the government Armenian Finance Minister David
Sargsyan said that the government was opposed to a number of banking
and loan bill amendments proposed by opposition MP Hrant Bagratyan.
One of the amendments would ban the issuance of foreign currency loans
in Armenia. Sargsyan noted that a law already on the books bans such
loans and that the bill is superfluous.
Bagratyan argued in the National Assembly that the amendments were
needed to create a level playing field for entrepreneurs in Armenia
and to strengthen the position of the Armenian Dram.
The government also declined Bagratyan's another initiative on ban to
fix foreign currency prices at the territory of Armenia. The Minister
said that according to the current legislation, it is forbidden to
fix foreign currency prices at the territory of Armenia.
