PRESIDENT SARGSYAN VISITS ARMENIAN-DUTCH JOINT VENTURE
YEREVAN, October 22. / ARKA /. During a working visit today to the
central Armenian province of Kotayk president Serzh Sargsyan visited
also a greenhouse located near Akunk rural community owned by an
Armenian- Dutch joint venture Biga.
The greenhouse, located on 10 hectares of land, cultivates
strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, most of which is exported
to the United Arab Emirates and Russia.
"The main difference between our and other greenhouses is that
thanks to ventilation system they can be used in hot season as well,
"a co-owner Samvel Petrosyan said to reporters.
The other co-owner Raffi Yeganyan noted that they use no fertilizers
for growing berries. "In the fight against pests we use only biological
materials which are more expensive than chemical ones," he said.
Biga was founded in 2005 winning a reputation of a producer of organic
mushrooms. In 2010 it leased 10 hectares of land in Kotayk region
to have planted 16 thousand raspberry, 4 thousand blackberry and 350
thousand strawberry bushes.
It is also planting now a cherry orchard. The company employs more than
70 workers , mostly residents of nearby villages. -0- - See more at:
