LATVIAN PARLIAMENT, ARMENIAN FM DISCUSS UNUSED ECONOMIC COOPERATION POTENTIAL

RIGA, Oct 22, BNS - The Latvian parliament delegation during a meeting
with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian underscored the
unused cooperation potential in economy, the Latvian parliament's
    press service reported.

Latvia and Armenia have a stable and constructive political dialogue
and active cooperation in other areas, while both countries still
have a large cooperation potential, including in economy, culture
and education, said representatives of the Latvian delegation during
their meeting with Nalbandian in Erevan.

The shared historical experience, mutual understanding and positive
relations open wide opportunities for handing over Latvia's experience
in implementation of reforms as an EU member to Armenia, said Latvian
    parliament deputy speaker Andrejs Klementjevs.

Latvia underscored the Eastern Partnership as Latvia's foreign policy
priority in the context of the EU-Armenian relations, getting ready for
the Eastern Partnership summit in November in Vilnius, and preparing
for Latvia's EU presidency in the first half of 2015.

Latvia may serve as a great platform for Armenian business investments
and entrance in the EU market, said the parliament delegation.

The parties agreed that the Latvian-Armenian intergovernmental
commission that started work in the summer is a successful instrument
for intensifying bilateral relations and deepening economic relations.

The Latvian Foreign Ministry underscored that economic cooperation
between both countries has grown, but it is not too intense --
the foreign trade was slightly over three million euros last year,
and Armenia ranked 87th among Latvia's trade partners. Latvia has a
positive trade balance with Armenia as its exports exceed imports by
    1.33 million euros.

Latvia called on Armenia to use Latvia's geopolitical advantages,
including the potential of ports, in establishing trade with the
    EU members.
