The Assembly of Delegates of the Armenian Diocese of France held a
special conference in Marseilles on Tuesday.
According to Nouvelles d`Armenie, the Assembly discussed the
consequences of the possible resignation of the primate of the diocese
Archbishop Norvan Zakarian and adopted a resolution urging Zakarian
and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II to make peace.
The Assembly asked the Council to organize meetings of the three
candidates for the post of the primate with believers. The next time
the Assembly will meet in Paris on Nov 16 to consider the candidacies.
On July 1 Zakarian informed Karekin II of his wish to resign and is now
waiting for reply. Mass media say that Zakarian did it because of his
conflict with Karekin II over the activities of Vache Hayrapetyan,
formerly a pastor in Nice and presently a pastor in Strasbourg,
who faced charges of forgery, money laundering and procuration but
was acquitted.
