Aghvan Vardanyan about inadequate response of authorities
"Unfortunately, the recent Azerbaijani lobbying in the European
institutions has been intensified, and, apparently, we concede to
Azerbaijan",- said ARF faction secretary Aghvan Vardanyan in the
interview with Aravot.am adding that we must be careful to defend
our interests. The matter is about the resolution adopted at the
European Parliament plenary session, last night, in which the text
regarding NKR says that the EU should be more actively involved in
the peaceful solution of conflicts, noting that the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict resolution must comply with 4 resolutions of the UN Security
Council 1993, and the OSCE Minsk Group fundamental principles enshrined
in 2009 by L'Aquila joint statement. To recall that 4 resolution of
the United Nations Security Council 1993 are calling for withdrawal
of troops from Qelbajar, Agdam and other "occupied" territories.
L'Aquila's statement, in its turn, is based on the Madrid principles,
and calls for return of territories adjacent to Nagorno-Karabakh to
Azerbaijan, providing an interim status to Nagorno-Karabakh with
guarantees for security and self-governance, to open a corridor
connecting Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, in the future, to determine
the status of Nagorno-Karabakh through the expression of will with
a binding legal force, to consider return of displaced population
and refugees to their former places of residence, and provide
international security guarantees, by application of peacekeeping
operations. Immediately after the adoption of the resolution, in the
records of different representatives of the ruling Republican party and
RA Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan, it was stated that in the same
document a reference is made to documents that contradict each other
and have no connection with each other. It is our observation that
the European Parliament after the President of Armenia's statement
of joining the Customs Union, recalled resolutions that during these
years Azerbaijan has made a flag in its hands, whether it means that,
in the relations with Armenia, Europe will use the issue of NKR as
a bludgeon, ARF secretary said that it is difficult to directly and
unequivocally connect it with Armenia's desire of joining the Customs
Union. But the matter that Armenian definitely concedes Azerbaijan in
lobbying, which intensifies its position year by year is definite. Our
interlocutor, of course, does not rule out the Azerbaijan is trying
to use this phase of Armenia's joining the Customs Union for adopting
new resolutions against Armenia by using the European MPs who are
guided by double standards or other personal interests. The reaction
of the authorities of Armenia merely on the level of statements,
Aghvan Vardanyan does not consider it adequate.
According to him, we should lead a systematic and consistent work, and
be able to present the essence of the problem, because very one-sided
resolutions are adopted by different international organizations and
those bypassing the essence of NKR problem.
