Armenian Economic Association annual meetings conclude

The Armenian Economic Association 2013 conference was jointly hosted
by Yerevan State University (YSU) and the American University of
Armenia (AUA) on October 19-20, 2013. It was preceded by a reception
at AUA on the 18th, and concluded with a workshop on the state of art
in public finance at the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) on October
21st. The language of the conference was English and Armenian, and
sessions were organized by language and field.

The Conference brought together academics and researchers from
Armenia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Spain, United
Kingdom, and the United States. Presentations over the two days
included over 45 papers which addressed topics in international trade,
economic development, macro and microeconomics, migration, finance,
political economy and public finance, energy, and labor markets among
    others.

The meetings were opened by PM Tigran Sargsyan at YSU who called for
the need for greater research on Armenia's economy. He was shortly
followed, via video conferencing, by a keynote speech on the role of
institutions in economic development by Daron Acemoglu, Elizabeth and
James Killian Professor of Economics at Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, and author of Why Nations Fail. The keynote speaker on the
second day was Mark Davis, Head of EBRD office in Armenia, who focused
on capital markets in Armenia. The conference program was chaired by
David Joulfaian, former Fulbright lecturer at Yerevan State
    University.

The conference was in part sponsored by Yerevan State University, the
American University of Armenia, the Central Bank, and the USAID/EDMC
program. For more details, please visit the conference homepage at
http://aea.am/conferences.html and visit us on Facebook at
    https://www.facebook.com/ArmenianEconomicAssociation. Stay tuned for
the call for papers for the 2014 conference.

The aim of the conferences is to bring together scholars, researchers,
and students to promote the exchange of ideas and advance economics
    scholarship.
