EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT URGED TO STOP POLITICAL AGGRESSION AGAINST AZERBAIJAN, IMPOSED BY U.S.

    Azerbaijan Business Center
    Oct 28 2013

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the EuroNest
Parliamentary Assembly Elkhan Suleymanov has addressed with a letter
to the president of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz.

"Your attempts of presenting Azerbaijan as the authoritarian country
aim at forming negative image of the country in the international
world by serves to keep under occupation the lands seized by Armenia
and forcing Azerbaijan to refuse from the occupied lands with slander
and aspersions. I'd like to ask you to put an end to all these and
cease political encroachment against Azerbaijan," his letter says.

Suleymanov also points out that he was really shocked at a reply
letter dated of 11.07.2013 to his previous letter from 2 May. Thus,
the response letter obviously stated that the EP president hasn't
personally read and got acquainted with the contents of the letter
Suleymanov sent. In this regard, Suleymanov again asked for the reasons
that the EP closes eyes on nearly 25-year occupation of Azerbaijani
    territory by Armenia.

"Despite the positive assessment of the presidential election
in Azerbaijan on the part of the observation mission governed by
You and consisting of seven members of EP, covering all political
fractions excluding the adults, showing impartiality and impatience,
showing tolerance and addiction, You immediately come to a decision
aiming at casting a shadow on results of the election even by causing
serious detriment to the influence of your own observation mission,"
    Suleymanov said.

In his view, as if reflecting a claim on "not meeting OSCE standards"
of recent elections held in Azerbaijan in Paragraph 32 of the
Resolution dated of October 23 on Neighborhood Policy adopted by EP
is not anything but convincingness and disrespect of the EP to its
    observation mission.

"Paragraph 32 of the EP's Resolution from 23 October, which indicates
"non-compliance with OSCE standards" of the recent election in
Azerbaijan has nothing but EP's distrust and disrespect to its own
observer mission. Thus the EP steps to the threat of turning into the
body, which fulfills injustice and orders of Human Rights, Freedom
and Unity House. I believe Paragraph 32 of the Resolution from 23
October, adopted by EP, is political aggression against Azerbaijan,"
    Suleymanov claimed.

The head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, Ramiz
Mehdiyev, in reply to news agency Interfax -Azerbaijan's question,
stated that he understands the complexity of the situation, in which
European politicians have got, who are under pressure from certain
    circles in Washington.

"However, this does not justify the double standards applied against
Azerbaijan. I believe that by such short-sighted actions, and
particularly by the attempts to pressure on the position of PACE and
the EP concerning the election in Azerbaijan, some officials in the
State Department damage the partnership that exists between the U.S.

    and Azerbaijan," Mehdiev said.

He added that forced change in their positions by European structures,
dictated from the outside, is deeply regrettable.

"It turns out that the level of partnership and cooperation between
Azerbaijan and the European Union countries should be dependent on the
whims and loyalties of certain circles in the U.S. State Department.

This is evident from how some officials in Washington did not leave
attempts to impose a view of minority (OSCE ODIHR and the U.S. State
Department), to the majority (OSCE, the European Parliament and
PACE), even if the majority unanimously noted the positive progress,
freedom and transparency of the electoral process in Azerbaijan,"
    Mehdiyev stated.

He added that in spite of this, the position of the U.S. State
Department and the U.S. Mission to the OSCE on presidential elections
in Azerbaijan, to say the least, puzzles.

"Some political circles in the U.S has not refused from the idea to
    isolate Azerbaijan," Mehdiev thinks.
