ZHOGHOVURD: SERZH SARGSYAN TO ATTEND PACE SESSION DESPITE SUPPORT TO RUSSIAN-LED UNION DEAL
10:45 04.09.13
The paper says it has learned from "well-informed sources" that
President Serzh Sargsyan will attend the Council of Europe's
Parliamentary Assembly next month despite expressing consent to the
Russian-led Customs Union proposal.
"As Armenia is ending its presidency of the CoE Committee of
Ministers, Serzh Sargysan is to speak at the PACE and later respond
to parliamentarians, following established procedures.
"Though Head of the Armenian Delegation to PACE David Harutyunyan
confirmed the report in comments to Zhoghovurd, Sargsyan may,
nonetheless, avoid leaving for Strasburg after yesterday's meeting with
[Russian President Vladimir] Putin. He is expected to have a tough time
there, as he will first face the Armenian opposition representatives
to respond to their questions. Besides, Sargsyan will face a downpour
of questions by the Europeans, especially in the context of foreign
policy searches. Let alone Azerbaijanis," says the paper, commenting
on a possible scenario of developments.
