EPP CONDEMNS RUSSIAN PRESSURE
On Thursday an urgent draft resolution was adopted during the
EPP's political summit condemning Russia's pressure on Armenia and
expressing regret on the decision made by the Armenian president
under such circumstances that endangers Armenia's achievements towards
EU integration.
The chair of the NA Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs Artak
Zakaryan and the minister of education and science, deputy leader of
the Republican Party representing the RPA had to explain to their
EPP counterparts how come Armenia negotiated with the EU for years
and decided to join the Customs Union over a night.
Armen Ashotyan told Radio Liberty the reaction of the European
community to such a decision could not be equivocal, meaning the
different reactions like Armenia underwent pressure, or the issue is
not limited to Armenia but is a general geopolitical issue.
After the first day of the EPP summit the representatives of the RPA
said most Europeans understood the decision.
"It is primarily determined by security issues, which is more than
understandable in the political circles," Artak Zakaryan said.
