ARMENIA NOT READY TO 'MARRY' EITHER CUSTOMS UNION OR EU - POLITICAL SCIENTIST
16:40 11.09.13
Political scientist Yervand Bozoyan voiced his opinion of the strong
and weak points of Armenia's decision at his meeting with journalists
on Wednesday.
Armenia is not ready to "marry" either the Customs Union or the
European Union (EU). "It is like two guys proposing to a girl, who
has to choose between them," he said.
The problem arose when Armenia attempted to embark on the way to
Europe. However, bringing its norms to conformity with both the
Customs Union and the EU was in Armenia's national interests.
"Armenia may act as an interesting bridge between the West and the
East," Bozoyan said. Armenian society is not fully aware of the
situation developing in the country.
"Armenia's authorities are living for the day and have failed to
implement a policy that would be acceptable to both the sides,"
the expert said.
A change of power poses a serious threat to Armenia. The country
needs system reforms.
