UNDERMINING IDEALS POSES SERIOUS THREATS TO OUR VALUES - ARMENIAN POLITICIAN

A former activist of the Karabakh committee, Ashot Manucharyan,
has expressed concerns over continuing attempts of discrediting the
national heroes who fought for the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh in
the 1990s.
According to him, such attempts are made first of all by the foreign
forces that determine the global policies today.
"It is the enemies of Armenia that stand behind the entire process
aimed at blackening the freedom-fighters' path. The problem is not
absolutely the fact that the same generals or politicians may really
say something wrong; the important thing is that it receives a media
coverage, which means their financial support comes from abroad in
an attempt to thoroughly discredit our victory and our generals,"
the politician told Tert.am.
Manucharyan was concerned to note that the discrediting reports
in online news sources and the social media often breed skepticism
among the youth, undermining national ideals. Such policies, he said,
are aimed at erasing the youth's memory about their home country
and national heroes in an attempt to facilitate what he called the
foreign forces attempts to gain control over the younger generation.
"This is Á big act of sabotage, and I feel sorry that the
government-controlled media give way to that. That means they also
have people who have lost their heads because of money and power,"
he said, considering such policies very dangerous for the state.
Asked whether it is possible to point to specific facts instead of
discrediting a general or a marshal, Manucharyan answered, "It is,
of course, possible to bring facts to present all this, but before
reaching the facts, it is necessary to simply realize that what
happened during the liberation struggle in Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh]
was due to our nation's fantastic power, its most amazing character.
That's something like a song, something like a symphony or epic."
Manucharyan said he believes that the major driving force behind the
attempts to spoil and misinform public is only money and power. "We
will endlessly tell lies because the only question now is how to
maintain power and money," he added.
