YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS: Stamp devoted to the Armenian Joan
of Arc, Avrora Mardiganyan, survivor of Genocide, has been issued
on September 24 in Armenian Genocide Museum. As Armenpress reports
the director of the Museum Hayk Demoyan noted that the Armenian
Postal service started to issue stamps on the 100th anniversary of
the Armenian Genocide. He noted that these steps bear particular
importance as they immortalize the heroes of those ages.
"This is importance for both the internal and the external audiences
of this event is great, as the stamps bear the main messages,"
Hayk Demoyan said. He noted that the initiative will have is
continuation. On the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide
"Haypost" has already issued stamps devoted to German theologist
Johannes Lepsius, English diplomat James Bryce and the Genocide
survivor Avrora Mardiganyan.
In 1918 a film was screened in Holywood based on Avrora Mardiganyan's
story called "The auction of the spirit". In this film which was
presented in New York Avrora tells about the horrors of the Genocide
and the exile. Avrora was 14 when she lost her family during the
Genocide and later she was tortured and raped by Turks and Kurds. In
the film she told about all those horrors.
She was later remembered as the Armenian Joan of Arc. She escaped
from the Turkish harem of Kemal Effendi and in 1917 got to Erzrum,
later to St. Petersburg and New York.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication Andranik Alexanyan
, head of the Armenian Philatelist union Hovik Musayelyan and the
